I'm considering adding support to my converter suite to allow checking passwords when a user converts from their old password manager. I'd like to get your feedback as to whether or not I should proceed. One important aspect is that the converter will have the best insight into records and other password fields (if the source password manager provides such hints).

I used to arbitrarily set the modified time stamp to the year 2000, to force Watchtower to catch candidates, but I deprecated that functionality this week (in favor of just setting record modified and created time stamps if they existed in the source password manager).

@MrC That sounds absolutely fantastic. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any problems (though I have a high degree of confidence that you won't!)

Do you plan to do offline (download 9 GB file) or online checks?

No, I would use the API.

The code is now available in the 1.10 version of the converter suite, located in Testing Bits. I'll provide an announcement in that thread, and update the main post.

  • Woo! Nice work MrC. :)
