@NikB: I'm not sure which email you're referring to. Did you maybe subscribe to the 1Password channel on YouTube? As far as I know we haven't sent out any emails about 1Password X, which is a new Chrome extension we've developed for 1Password.com members. It's meant to be used on its own, rather than integrating with the desktop apps like the 1Password for Mac browser extension does. Some folks cannot or do not want to install an app, so 1Password X fills that need for many. I'm sorry if there's any confusion there. Let me know if you have any other questions! :)

Yes... it was a YouTube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XKGTS6lhI-4&feature=em-subs_digest. So.... 1) having purchased all my 1PW from the app store, I don't have a 1PW account... do I need one for 1PW X? 2). Should I remove the 1PW for Mac browser to get the 1PW X chrome extension to work? Can both the browser extension and X co-exist?

@NikB: Ah, yep. You got a notification from YouTube when we added that video because you'd subscribed to the channel.

    1) having purchased all my 1PW from the app store, I don't have a 1PW account... do I need one for 1PW X?

Yes. 1Password X requires an account from a 1Password.com membership.

2). Should I remove the 1PW for Mac browser to get the 1PW X chrome extension to work?

That isn't necessary. I use both. But it could be confusing for you, since they work differently. And of course you'll need an account to use 1Password X. You don't for the 1Password for Mac browser extension, you've already purchased that app itself.

However, you may want to consider a 1Password.com membership, since it gives you access to all of the apps, the web interface, and does away with license management and sync configuration altogether — you simply login to your account to authorize a device and access your data. You can try it for free for 30 days to take advantage of all of its benefits.

Can both the browser extension and X co-exist?

Absolutely! When you install 1Password X, it will disable the 1Password for Mac browser extension to help avoid confusion, but you can enable it again in Chrome. Ultimately I would recommend using one or the other though:

    • Use the 1Password for Mac browser extension if you want the integration with that app
    • Or, if you sign up for a 1Password.com membership, you can use 1Password X if you prefer to use 1Password only within your web browser, as I know some people just do as a matter of course

I hope this helps. Be sure to let me know if you have any other questions! :)
