1Password 4 for Windows upgrade?

    Hi, I've been using 1PW on my iOS and Windows laptop for years. Yesterday I had to reinstall OS and tried to download and install 1PW for Windows. However 1PW v6 forced me to register account, but didn't ask for my license key. There is no option to enter it in the app at all. I've contacted Support and they confirm I cannot upgrade to v6 witth my license key:
    "Licenses are for a specific version only. All updates within the same version is free, but a major version upgrade may incur further costs. Additionally, as I had mentioned 1Password 6 is only available with a subscription account. Our next version, 1Password 7, will be available for both subscribers and as a standalone license purchase."

    Please confirm I have only option to stay with v4, or sign-up for monthly fee for the account?

    Hi @Victor_V

    That is correct. 1Password 6 for Windows requires a subscription membership. You can continue using the legacy 1Password 4 for Windows if you’re licensed for it.

    Thanks Ben. Does it mean Mac users purchased a license for v4 are OK to use their existing licenses without subscription with ver.6? (Actually I know they are, as my friend is on mac is using it with the old license)?

    It sounds like you’ve answered your own question, but yes. On Mac a v4 license is valid for v4, v5, and v6. It will not be valid for v7. Typically a license is valid for one person on one platform for one version, but 1Password 4 for Mac was an exception to that general rule. With a 1Password membership upgrades are always included — there is never any additional charge to use the 1Password software on any of our supported platforms. This makes membership an especially attractive offering for folks who use multiple platforms or want to share 1Password with their families.
