Can I Delete Dropbox?

Ok, just signed up for an account and set it up on all our devices. I only used Dropbox for syncing 1Password between our devices. Can it now be safely deleted from them?

    @pappjo: If you have

    1. all of your data in your 1Password.com account (verify this by signing into the website), and
    2. nothing else you're using Dropbox for,

then you can delete any sync'd 1Password vaults in Dropbox and/or uninstall Dropbox completely.

I hope this helps. Be sure to let me know if you have any other questions! :)

Thanks I checked and everything is there. However when I first signed into the web site account I received an error message - “Vault not found - url may be incorrect”. When I dismissed that everything appeared normal, all items were shown and the latest additions were displayed. Then I edited one of the password items and when I saved it another error message appeared - “the change could not be saved, there is an older vault locally.” When I dismissed that the change had been saved and the edited version was displayed correctly. I don’t know why those error messages appeared since everything was correct.

I signed out and then back in to check to see if the error messages reappeared. This time there were no error messages after signing in nor when editing and saving an item. Experimenting some more I signed out and then deleted my history and cookies and tried this again. This time, again, after entering all log in information the error messages appeared once more. Signing out once more and trying this again no error messages. So leaving the web site data and cookies intact prevented any error messages. This was all done on my iPad Pro in Safari and I have no idea why the error messages appeared even though everything was correct.

  • Hi @pappjo,

We can definitely investigate that further, but let’s deal with the original issue/question first. As all of your data appears on 1Password.com you can go ahead and remove 1Password from Dropbox and then remove Dropbox.

Please let me know when you’ve got that completed and we can take a closer look at the errors you’re getting in the web interface.

Ok, all Dropbox apps/files have been deleted from all our devices.

  • Excellent. Now when you sign in to https://my.1password.com/ do you see an error?

Initially yes. Each device I used for the first time to log into the site popped up those error messages. But only on the initial attempt. Logging out and subsequently back in doesn’t trigger any error messages.

However as I mentioned before if I clear Safari’s cookies for the site and reattempt all this they pop up again. But unless I do that it’s just an initial issue. When I dismissed those messages everything was correct with no errors so I have no clue what they mean.

@pappjo: Does that happen even when clicking the specific URL that Ben posted above? How about this one?

    https://start.1password.com/

Perhaps something is being cached in your browser, or it's autocompleting the URL. I'm just not seeing anything like that here.

Currently no, no error messages using either of those links. Only when I accessed the web service by a browser for the first time after establishing my account. It occurred on each device I used for the first time. After that I did not see any error messages.

But playing around with this just so I could see if I could duplicate it, I cleared all cookies and web site data for 1Password. Then when I logged in again I did run into the error messages. I’m not going to go through clearing that data again so I’m not likely to see this again. When I did clear cookies and data I would be presented with a page requiring my secret key, user name and password. That’s when the error messages appeared.

Now, on the log in page the secret key is already present, obscured by dots, as well as my name. Then after entering my password I’m shown my account with no errors.

  • Thanks for letting us know @pappjo. We’ll keep an eye out for this.
