Not sure if I have an account

Hi,

I lost my old iPhone, which had passwords synced with my Mac laptop. I've installed the 1Password app on my new phone, and need the secret key to log in. It turns out my laptop isn't logged in, either. If my accounts on mac & iPhone were synced, I must have a 1Password account, right? If so, how can I get my secret key? How do I figure out what my sync type was?!

1Password Version: 6.8.8

OS Version: Os X 10.13.4

The wording may be confusing. An ACCOUNT is the same as a subscription, and membership is the same thing again.

Before there was the subscription approach there were only LICENCES (which are still available).

With a licence you had to set up synching for yourself, with a subscription it is done for you.

And a Secret Key only exists if you have a subscription. You are supposed to keep a copy of this (perhaps in the Emergency Kit, which you are recommended to set up and print during the sign-up process).

    Hope this helps.

    Hi there @grinneller

Seems like there is a bit of confusion in terminology here. As danco mentioned, an "account" as far as 1Password uses the term, refers to people using our 1Password membership subscription service. If you haven't been paying for a subscription, you don't have an "account". Secret Keys are only needed for people with accounts. So if you don't have an account you don't have nor need a Secret Key.

As for what your sync type was, let me ask this: what service have you been using to sync your 1Password data so far? Your options would be either Dropbox or iCloud. If you're not sure, check your Mac. Open up 1Password on your Mac and, in the top menu, click 1Password>Preferences>Sync. Your sync type should be listed on that screen.
