Unable to sync second vault that is shared with me in Dropbox

Hello there! My wife and I have previously been sharing our 1password vaults through Dropbox. But after upgrading my old vault which was using agile keychain I am no longer able to open both 1password.opvault files in iOS using the iOS app.

  • She has her primary vault synced to dropbox which she shares directly as 1password.opvault
  • Her vault is saved at the root of my dropbox folder ~/Dropbox/1password.opvault
  • My new converted vault is now being stored at ~/Dropbox/Apps/1password.opvault

On my Mac its no problem to open and sync both of these vaults. On iOS I am no longer able to open her vault. I deleted 1password and started from scratch on my phone as directed in the knowledge base articles. Is this because both files are named 1password.opvault? This was obviously not a problem before since my .agilekeychain file had a different extension. I think this vault has existed since 2009! Anyhow any tips on what I can do to have dropbox sync see the file it could see before? I'd like to upgrade to 1password 7 on my mac which is why I am upgrading my vault.

1Password Version: 7.0.6
Extension Version: Not Provided
OS Version: iOS 11.4
Sync Type: Dropbox

@agallisa: Thanks for getting in touch! Indeed, the filename won't be an issue, as you can't have two vaults with the same name in the same location anyway. I would still consider changing their names just to avoid any confusion in the future when setting up devices, but otherwise it's no problem for 1Password. Now, I know you're saying "Unable to sync second vault", but I'm not clear on where exactly you're running into trouble. Are you getting some sort of error? Without any details it's hard to say, but I can tell you that you won't be able to add a second vault unless you have the Pro Features upgrade. So make sure that 1) you've actually purchased this and 2) that you've installed the app to restore the purchase using the correct Apple ID -- the one you used to buy it in the first place. "Family Sharing" does not work with in-app purchases. Let me know what you find.

@brenty Thanks so much for the quick reply. So to clarify I can't sync an additional vault becuase iOS can not see a 1password vault which it previously was able to. Syncing to the vault in OS X seems fine. The first 1password.opvault is the one which iOS can't see, but OS X can. When you share a vault through dropbox it changes the .opvault file to look like a shared folder, but in the past iOS could see this file, and OSX still can.

This is OS X 1Password 6.8.9 viewing my primary vault

This is OS X 1Password 6.8.9 viewing her shared vault

This is the screen I press to try and sync that shared vault

And this is what I see when it connects to Dropbox. It only shows my primary vault, and does not have access to her vault which is shared at the root of my dropbox.

And here is me confirming the pro features.

Let me know if there are any other details I can provide! Thanks so much!

@agallisa: Likewise, thanks for the details! It looks like you're running into a Dropbox issue, where it isn't finding all of your vaults for some reason. This isn't something we can fix for you since 1Password just requests a list of everything ending in .agilekeychain and .opvault. The only way I know of to resolve this is to move the vault out of Dropbox, let it sync, and then move it back and try again. It isn't common, but we've seen this occasionally with their new APIs.
