Couldn't Authenticate 1Password Family on Windows 10/Chrome

Hi,

I changed jobs and now have a PC, so I got the 1Password Family account so I could go cross-platform.

When I went to sign in on the PC with the magic key, password, etc. at https://.1password.com using Chrome it failed. I went so far as to copy the text strings from my Mac, to a text file on a USB drive, transferred it to the PC, and did a cut and paste into the fields in Chrome on the PC. Still, nothing but password rejection.

Because I fight this kind of nonsense for a living, I installed Firefox, and then used that to sign into https://.1password.com. Viola, it worked. Both browser extensions work as expected as does the stand-alone app.

This is a brand new Dell Laptop with the latest versions of Chrome and Firefox.

Any idea what might have caused all the unnecessary aggravation? Did I miss any warnings?

Thanks,
David

@daveohkatie: Indeed, that's got to be frustrating. I don't think it's anything you did. Without really having any details I can only make suggestions based on what we've heard from other customers. We hear of issues like this most on Windows because a lot of folks run some pretty invasive "security" software there which often interferes with the connection. 1Password.com has very strict security requirements (for obvious reasons), so if something like that is trying to insert itself as a "person-in-the-middle" to scan the traffic (or firewall/proxy gets in the way), a secure connection cannot be established and the server will reject it. So that's a good place to start. It is interesting though that it works in Firefox but not Chrome. More often, we see issues with Firefox as the antivirus vendors like to install their own self-made security certificates there. Definitely check for updates in Chrome, let it complete, and then restart Windows, as that can help if something hung up from trying to update earlier. It could also be that you've got some other extensions installed that are causing some trouble. But also keep in mind that if you've changed your membership plan, you may also have setup a new sign in address as part of that process, so be sure to double check all of that on the website in Firefox since you're able to login there:

Either way, let me know what you find!
