1Password 7.0.3 crashes immediately upon launch

Is there a conflict with running 1Password 7.0.3 alongside 1Password X? When launching 1Password 7.app, I can see 1Password 7 briefly open in the menu bar but it throws an exception immediately (1Password 7 quit unexpectedly dialog). Same results if I use the web stable, web beta, or App Store version.

    While I don't have a solution, I can advise that 7.0.3 works for standalone 1PW7.

    I was able to resolve by blowing all traces of agilebits, onepassword, and 1Password from ~/Library and any subfolders.

    Welcome to the forum, @sdfwill! Thanks for the update. I'm glad you were able to take care of things on your own, though I cringe a bit at the nature of your solution. We generally recommend users not do that kind of sweeping deletion of their Library folder data. However, if your data are all in a 1password.com account, then there's no problem with deleting every trace of 1Password from your local setup if you think it will help. Clearly, in this case, it did. I almost wish we'd been able to take a more scalpel-like approach so we could figure out what actually went wrong...but it's good to see you're back in business and that's the main thing, after all. :)

    I have the same problem. Installed the trial version of 1Password 7 yesterday over my previous, standalone 1PW 6. 1PW7 crashes every time it tries to open, both the app and 1PW mini. I rebooted, but that didn't help. Further, my Mac became extremely slow immediately after the upgrade. Poking around, I found a number of suspicious things. For one, there are several copies of com.agilebits.onepassword7-launcher on my system:

    • ~Library/Application Scripts/com.agilebits.onepassword7-launcher (0 KB)
    • ~Library/Containers/com.agilebits.onepassword7-launcher (33 KB)
      as well as two different ones in /var/folders/k6/[subfolders with long names]

    Further, I have now two almost identical folders with 1PW data in them

    • ~Library/Application Support/1Password 4 (325,2 MB)
    • ~Library/Group Containers/2BUA8C4S2C.agilebits (330,9 MB)

    I guess the first one is the one 1PW6 previously used?

    But anyhow, not only do these crashes render 1PW7 completely useless for me; they also make me fear that my data may get destroyed. I’m attempting to revert to 1PW6 as soon as I can find the time to do so—this issue with version 7 has already cost me half a work day! Unacceptable!

    One of the crash logs contains this line:
    *** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '*** -[__NSPlaceholderArray initWithObjects:count:]: attempt to insert nil object from objects[1746]'

    I was trying to upload my crash logs, but this system doesn't allow me to do so (it balks at both the zipped version and the plain crash log).

    Despite this horrendous experience, I'm still interested in getting 1PW7 to work (since version 6 is no longer actively supported), so please advise on how to test it without running into all these problems!

    @Albrecht - I'm sorry for the trouble! Did you install 1Password 7 for Mac from the Mac App Store, or from our website? If you used our version, I'm not sure what went wrong that allowed you to install version 7 while leaving version 6 still on your Mac, since the first-run of 1Password 7 for Mac should zip up the previous version after importing its data.

    I guess the first one is the one 1PW6 previously used?

    Yes. It's also what should make it easy to uninstall one version and return to the other one, if necessary. However, given the oddities in your description of events, rather than trying to troubleshoot this via 20 Questions here on this public forum, I'd like to ask you to create a diagnostics report from your Mac:

    https://support.1password.com/diagnostics/?mac

    Please add the following code (including the square brackets) to the Subject line of your diagnostics email before sending it:

    [#AFT-59276-967]

    This will link your diagnostics to our current discussion. I'll take a look and let you know what I find out.

    For anyone else reading, please note: this ID is for @Albrecht only. If you’re experiencing the same issue and need help, please ask us for your own ID.

    @zzlion,

    If you're still running 7.0.3 I would recommend going to the download page and downloading 7.4.1, which is the current latest version. https://1password.com/downloads/mac/

    Part 2. Different computer. The menu icon in Firefox won't launch the app.

    @zzlion:

    Can you please elaborate a little bit on what you are trying to do? The browser extension does not launch the app, it opens the browser extension itself. If you need to open the main 1Password desktop app, you need to open that separately.

    Thank you. Let us focus on the failure to launch on my desktop Mac OS. I cannot open the main application without it crashing. The message is along the lines of "1P has quit unexpectedly" then asks if I want to send a report to Apple I(done that). Attempt to relaunch with the same results. Restart my machine, still the same result. The irony is that all of my passwords in 1P including agile bits. So I'm stuck. I do have a functioning version of 1P on a laptop that still functions fine. Delete the app on the desktop? Or...?

    @zzlion:

    Have you tried updating the app to the latest version as per Rudy's recommendation already?

    Good Morning
    Just catching up to the thread and yes I did and it seems successful. Thank you one and all at agilebits. Love the product and love the support.
