Background data refresh using 1Password.com subscription

I was wondering about background data refresh on the iOS app. I've noticed that if I make changes to 1Password on my Mac, my iPhone doesn’t seem to sync until I open it with an internet connection. (I sync using a 1Password membership.)

Is the iOS app supposed to support background data refresh?

  • Hi @skatch,

You are correct: 1Password for iOS is not able to use background app refresh in any meaningful way. This is because it cannot make any changes to your data when it is locked.

Following up on this thread, from the 7.2 release notes, it sounds like 1Password now stays up to date in the background on iOS! Really great news!

I’d love to know a bit about how. Is there some new background API that makes this possible?

@skatch: iOS has had some support for background presses for a while now, and with 1Password.com, having control over "the whole stack" — server, protocol, and client — we've been able to make it efficient enough to allow it to update in the background when possible. :)
