OMG 1Password 7 ?

Is it just me or is thing so far from being prime time its not funny??
I dont know where to start.......

I HAD:
iMac/Macbook/iPhone/iPad running 1P6 ( with 5 user license for family members) with a Vault on my Dropbox
Happy days. Hardly a hiccup since Vers1

MY WIFE HAD:
On my multi user account, an iMac/iPhone/iPad running 1P6 with her own vault on her own Dropbox
Happy Days.

I NEVER go with first iterations of new software (for reasons shortly to be revealed) but my wife, on standing instruction from me, hit 'upgrade' (I failed to make the distinction between update and upgrade) on 1Password on her iPhone and we were suddenly thrown into the world of Vers. 7 with Subscriptions (arggghhh...) Emergency Kits and 'Secret Keys'

I did my best to reverse her out, but of course there was no backstep to vers. 6 for the iPhone or at least not one that I could find in the hour that I searched for it. So we took the leap.

I did the 'upgrade' on my iMac. All seemed to go smoothly until I discovered that I was no longer using the Vault located on my Dropbox but rather a Vault called Personal at a location undisclosed. So I went looking for a means to 'switch' the vault to that on my Dropbox. Couldn't find any such option or even any reference to the trusty vault that I had relied upon and which I assumed had been picked up in the migration. (all the info does appear in the Personal vault thank god)

So I took to my MacBook. Spent well over another hour trying the links which didnt work, entering Master Passwords that varied depending on the screen between my new 7 Master Password and the old Master Password from 6. Eventually managed to log into the Personal Vault on line and merged the passwords. But now on my MacBook, I have TWO vaults one called Primary and the other called Personal, so I do some more digging on the website and end up at a page that instructs me to remove the Primary with instructions on how to do so. It says to select the Primary vault in the list and go to the 1Password menu and choose Delete vault. Firstly this option is in the Vaults menu not the 1Password menu and secondly when I found it, the command was grayed out....... after a lot of fruitless further digging, I took a break from this machine.

Next I had a look at my wifes iPhone (I wasn't going to touch her iMac at this stage as this was the only device in the house that was sitting unmesssed with). On her phone I tried to sign in to vers. 7 Under 'Already using 1Password?' I see an enticing option on the startup screen that offers 'Dropbox' wooohooo.... looking up. So I click this and am asked for the Dropbox credentials and of course I put in the details for her Dropbox where her Vault sits waiting..... no such luck because she shares the multi 1Password 6 account with me and its looking for MY Dropbox sign in.... which, if you are still with me, houses MY Vault and not hers.

And next............ ahhh you know what? I could go on and on because I have spent at least 5 hours trying to unravel this unholy mess.

BOTTOM LINE.

If you are considering version 7 and have a reason to subject yourself to a subscription model, then good luck. Given the choice I would have at lease temporarily declined and sat on the sidelines - as it turns out for good reason.

IF THERE IS ANYONE OUT THERE FROM AGILEBITS: My wife and I are both leaving on overseas trips in different directions in 2 days and neither of us have mobile versions - MacBook, iPhone or iPad of all our password - we're facing the prospect of having to carry screen snaps of our entire logon library around with us. If you are moved to save us from this mess then we would like some very clear and simple instructions on how to UPGRADE back to version 6. Thank you in anticipation.

1Password Version: 7
Extension Version: Not Provided
OS Version: 10.13.5
Sync Type: Dropbox (I wish)

I'm in the same state of mind. Deeply regretting upgrading to V7 and feel like there was some bait and switch around its greatness...especially not being upfront about the mandatory subscription model. I have not completed the V7 install (stopped when I realized I would be signing up monthly recurring fees) but it has disabled my V6, so I'm stuck in No-Man's Land. I can't access any of my passwords and I can't revert to V6. I tweeted Agilebits support but am not getting a response, so hopefully they will pick up this thread. We desperately need a path back to V6 for those of us that don't have Secret Keys, etc.

@cjsogle I found this from Ben at Agilebits in a similar thread and it worked for me Hopefully it will for you, too.

Quit 1Password 7, drag it to the trash, empty the trash, and then download a fresh copy of 1Password 6. https://app-updates.agilebits.com/product_history/OPM4

Just a note about "mandatory" subscriptions. While the Mac App Store version of 1PW7 is subscription only, the version direct from AgileBits can be used either with a subscription or with a stand-alone licence, though a new licence fee is needed for the latter.

Thanks tjw503 and danco This would certainly be helpful where the desktop app is concerned but there does not seem to be a way to backstep to the iOS version of 6. And danco when you refer to the standalone version of the app on the website, are you referring to the version 6 download that tjw503 mentions or ver 7 for which I cannot find a standalone option for at all?

Yes, there is a stand-alone version of 1PW7. Because AgileBits feel that the subscription model is the best for new users and many older users, this is somewhat hidden. Also, apparently AgileBits have found in the past that many people have made the wrong purchase, so they don't want the details too prominent.

I believe that when you initially download 1PW7 on the first Welcome screen there is an option in small print at the bottom of the screen to purchase a licence.

  • Hi @cjsogle,

So glad to hear tjw503 and danco helped out here. You should be able to stick with 1Password 7 on your iOS devices since that was a free upgrade. Unless you found some issues in it that aren't making it usable, in which case please let us know so we can fix them. :)

My wife and I are both leaving on overseas trips in different directions in 2 days and neither of us have mobile versions - MacBook, iPhone or iPad of all our password - we're facing the prospect of having to carry screen snaps of our entire logon library around with us. At this point, let's take a closer look at how things are set up on your devices and help you use 1Password either with version 6 or 7, whichever is easiest for you. To get a better idea of how things are set up, please create a Diagnostics Report from each of your devices:

    How to send diagnostics reports

Attach the Diagnostics Reports to an email, and send it to support+forum@agilebits.com.

Please do not post your Diagnostics Report in the forums, but please do include a link to this thread in your email, along with your forum username so that we can "connect the dots" when we see your Diagnostics Report in our inbox.

You should receive an automated reply from our BitBot assistant with a confirmation number. Please post that number here so we can track down the report and ensure that it is dealt with quickly. :)

Once we see the report we should be able to better assist you. Thanks very much!
