Can't update to 1Password 7.0.4 from the Apple Mac Store

I can't install the 1Password 7.0.4 update from the Mac App Store. I keep getting the “1Password 7 cannot be open during installation" error. The problem is I had already quit 1Password and also restarted my Mac. No matter what I try to do, I keep getting this error dialog box. Is this a bug? How can I fix this? Thanks!

1Password Version: 7.0.1
Extension Version: 4.7.1
OS Version: OS X 10.13.5
Sync Type: 1Password

I have the same error, and contacting support via Twitter was unhelpful (they responded once, then never again). You can't even delete the damn thing and use 1Password 6 anymore.

There is a bug with the App Store version which means that you first have to quit 1Password 7 fully before you can install an update from the App Store. There are already threads here and here (doubtless among others) about this and containing the solution.

To save you following the links, just press control + option + command + Q to quit 1Password fully and then you will be able to update from the App Store.

ctrl+alt+cmd+Q didn't work for me but I followed the links in Stephen_C's post above. In the second linked thread Corey's suggestion worked for me -- that's going to 1Password on the menu bar, opening it if necessary, gearwheel, then quit 1Password completely in the menu.

antony_gordon's solution (repeating that from a thread above) works perfectly. Thanks!

Holding the ALT/Option key while clicking on the mini in the menubar brings up "Quit 1Password Completely" right away. Then update from the MAS.

thanks for the help. control + option + command + Q did nothing for me. I unchecked the 'Always keep 1Password Extension Helper running' preference and was able to update then

Hi folks. @Stephen_C is correct; this is a bug we're looking to squash as soon as possible, but for now, Quitting 1Password 7 Completely by typing ^⌥⌘Q (or just holding down the Control and Option keys as you choose Quit from the 1Password menu) should take care of things for everyone. Then you can update your copy of 1Password 7 from the Mac App Store. Let us know if you continue to have problems, and sorry for the inconvenience.

Thank you!! With your instructions (Control-Option-Command-Q) I was successfully able to fully quit 1Password and properly run the update installer via the Mac App Store. I really appreciate your help! And I just learned something!

Ok, I'm using 1Password 7 Version 7.3.2 (70302003) Mac App Store. An update came out Nov 7, 2019, but even when using ^⌥⌘Q to close, the app isn't updating.
