When "Suggested Items" isn't useful.

Hi, I've been using 1Password for several years and love it. One of the things I love most is typing Command+\ on my Mac and having a login filled in and submitted for a site. This works great when you have a single login item associated with a single domain.

Where this doesn't work well is when you have multiple login items tied to websites that have completely different URLs but fall under a particular domain name, for example:

Login 1 (U: firstname.lastname / P: mypassword1) - http://site1.domain.com/login
Login 2 (U: myusername / P: secret2) - http://app2.domain.com/account/login
Login 3 (U: my.email@domain.com / P: mypassword3) - http://foo.domain.com/bar/baz.html

In this case if my browser was sitting at the site http://app2.domain.com/account/login I would expect Command+\ to use the "Login 2" item to fill and submit the form. Instead what happens is because all these passwords fall under "domain.com", the Suggested Items window pops up with "RELATED DOMAIN.COM PASSWORDS" and I have to look through and pick the correct password that will be submitted in the form, which seems like an unnecessary step.

I can see where Suggested Items is useful, say if you have a multiple logins for a particular URL and 1Password doesn't know which one you want filled in. But in this case, even though I've configured login items explicitly under different URLs, Suggested Items just ends up being a burden. Perhaps 1P should be targeting the entire URL or at least the subdomain+domain (foo.domain.com) name associated with a login item, instead of using the broader domain name (domain.com) attribute.

Is there a way to turn Suggested Items off?

  • Hi flipcide,

In the above scenario, Login 2 should be filled w/o showing 1P mini. You are correct in your assessment.

I had a discussion with someone else this week that was having a similar issue. He was able to fix it by editing Login 2, deleting the URL field and then adding the URL field back as it was before. -- I do not know why this was effective.

I'm going to run some tests.

  • I did a test with discussions.agilebits.com...

    Login 1: https://site1.agilebits.com/login
    Login 2: https://discussions.agilebits.com/login
    Login 3: https://foo.agilebits.com/bar/baz.html

    Then I navigated to https://discussions.agilebits.com/entry/signin?Target=

When triggering 1Password mini with Command-\, Login 2 is automatically filled.
When triggering 1Password mini with Command-Option-\, it looks like this...

When 1P mini opens, do you see all your logins grouped together, or separated like this? The way it's supposed to work is that if there is only one item in the top section "DISCUSSIONS.AGILEBITS.COM PASSWORDS", that item is filled w/o showing the mini UI. If there are multiple items, or if there are no items, then the UI is shown.

The "RELATED AGILEBITS.COM PASSWORDS" section is for convenience. Those items should not auto-fill.
