convert all http links to https?

Hi there, I have about 200 links beginning with http, but really are https when you go to the website. I would like to know if there is any tool to convert all my http links to https? Just to make the big yellow watchtower flag go away, which is disturbing and totally unnecessary. If there is no such tool, please provide one or provide an option to disable "watchtower". I don't like to be watched. Thank you.

@PaulShark - there's no simple way to convert multiple logins from http:// to https:// - you'll need to do that within each record. I'd recommend doing it not only because this will remove them from the Watchtower flag issue you mentioned, but also because if the login pages themselves really are https://, you should keep the records updated to reflect the proper URL -- some pages will not switch you automatically if you don't have the proper prefix. Others might actually allow you to login insecurely over HTTP, which you don't want.

Regarding Watchtower, it doesn't actually "watch" you. No information of yours is sent to us. In the case of the "Unsecured" tab, 1Password 7 just looks at the Login data you have entered and reminds you of any that are for URLs not beginning with HTTPS instead of HTTP.

Thanks, very helpful. After starting going through all these old URLs beginning with http:// it turns out that many of them which are several years old are outdated or not existent any more. A cleaning up of my database was much overdue.

@PaulShark - glad to hear all's well now. It's true: because there's no limit (theoretically) to what you can store in 1Password, sometimes things get a bit...wooly, if you don't periodically go through your database and weed out any old/disused items. I actually have created a separate vault for older items which I call Archives, and exclude from the All Vaults view. So whenever I find something I no longer use, I just move it permanently into that vault, where I don't have to see or think about it.

Some websites still do not offer https for login. To make the yellow warning go away anyway, I recommend making URL shortcuts, for example with tinyurl.com. In this way you have a secure link to an insecure website, and no watchtower warning any more.

  • I probably would not recommend that, @PaulShark. While it will make the Watchtower notification go away it defeats the purpose and provides a false sense of security.
