Security of passwords while broken iPhone is out of my sight!

I need to take my iPhone 6+ in for repair.

What's the safest way to ensure that my passwords remain secure if I have to leave my phone in the shop, please?

Would it even be better to delete 1P for iOS temporarily from my phone?

If I do that, does it in any way compromise my database, which synchs at all times to my macOS (iMac) version of 1P?

    @Mark Sealey: Good question! I think it's not a bad idea to delete the app from your device before handing it over, provided you have your data somewhere else. However, that's really not necessary if you're using a long, strong, unique Master Password: 1Password's data is encrypted using that, so even if you hand over your device and the passcode to unlock it, someone would need to know your Master Password to get into 1Password itself. And even if they completely hose your phone during repair (let's hope not), that won't affect your 1Password data on other devices. I hope this helps. Be sure to let me know if you have any other questions! :)

    Let me emphasise that @brenty said it's not a bad idea PROVIDED YOU HAVE YOUR DATA SOMEWHERE ELSE.

    I believe I am right in saying that deleting 1PW from your phone will also delete the data from the phone, so you need a copy elsewhere. And if the phone got completely hosed, you would also need a copy of your data somewhere else even if you hadn't deleted 1PW from the phone.

    @danco: You're 100% correct, and I should have been more explicit. Thank you!

    It's always a risk when sending something in for repairs that something could go wrong. Another component (like the storage) could fail while replacing another. So I'd add that, unless you're using a 1Password.com account to store your encrypted data safely (backup is automatically done on the server in that case), be sure to backup your data. Can never be too careful. :)

    @brenty and @danco,

    Thanks so much. I have the subscription service for 1P7 - and the desktop version.

    My concern is that the first time I launch 1P7 on my desktop, it looks on your servers, finds that the synch device is gone, and jumps to the wrong conclusions.

    Could that happen?

    @Mark Sealey: Yep! Just wanted to clarify for anyone else who might read our comments. :)

    With a 1Password.com account, the server is the "source of truth" for the data. So some devices being offline won't affect your ability to get your data on others. :)

    Happy Fourth to you, your family and all at Agile Bits!

    I have a new phone (it's a known fault on my old one; and it was time) - on which everything (including 1P) is working just perfectly.

    Thanks again very much for your help, support and advice!
