Can 1Password 6 and 7 share the same vault from Dropbox? In other words, is the vault in version 7 backwards compatible with version 6 as well? From what ive read, it sounds like it will create a new vault for other systems to have to connect to and sync with.

For example, one Mac is on 10.11 and another is on 10.12 and currently both use 1Password 6. It seems that 1Password 7 requires 10.12 or greater to install so the 10.11 system cant use version 7 of 1Password. Would this require a subscription to 1Password or just setting it to sync to the new vault that is created on Dropbox?

1Password Version: 6.8.9
Extension Version: Not Provided
OS Version: macOS 10.12.6
Sync Type: Dropbox

  • @tumbler,

As long as you've moved to the opvault format for your vault on Dropbox this configuration is fine. 1Password 7 does not require a subscription, a standalone license is available there.

How do we tell if we are using the opvault format?

  • @PeterMac,

If you navigate to the Sync tab in the Preferences window, and click on the vault you're syncing it should have a path below it.
