I am trying to setup a new installation on my new Iphone 7 running on ios 11.4 it is asking for the master password but i have forgotten it now. I have tried a number of old passwords i think it might be without much success. I had it installed on my previous iphone.

I'm sorry to hear you've forgotten your Master Password. We have a guide for this situation which may be helpful available here:
If you forgot your Master Password or you can't unlock 1Password | 1Password
I hope that helps. Should you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to ask.

Are you saying once I unlock 1PasswordPro through touch id I can change the master password even if I don’t have it? Well I tried this, it won’t let me change it without the original primary password.

I’m not saying that, no. To clarify the situation though: are you currently able to unlock 1Password using Touch ID? If so please sign up for a 1Password.com trial membership and migrate your data there. This process will allow you to choose a new Master Password:
Move your existing 1Password data to a 1Password account
Once you’ve done so you can delete 1Password and reinstall it, signing into the trial account using your Secret Key and Master Password. If you’d like to continue with membership at that point you can add a subscription or if you’d rather go back to using 1Password standalone instructions can be found here:
How to move your data to a standalone vault to use 1Password without an account
This would only apply if you are indeed able to unlock using Touch ID currently. If you cannot you’ll need your Master Password.
I hope that helps!

As I purchased the stand alone version which is called 1PasswordPro I prefer to use that.

Well I have done all this, new account etc then I deleted my app and reinstalled it ...decided to go back stand alone account...this is now not recognising my new master password it is asking for my old one which I have forgotten...it seems to me that I have lost all..It was such a superb application made totally unusable because I wanted it on my new iphone as well loading it up from iCloud... how do it get it back again?

@Barcodebobbie: "1Password Pro" is version 3, which was developed ca. 2009 and discontinued in 2012, so it isn't compatible with recent iOS versions and won't be a viable option.
Regardless of the version, you will need to enter the correct Master Password to be able to access your data there, as that's needed to decrypt it. Do you have access to your 1Password data on another device?
(Un)fortunately AgileBits has neither access to your 1Password data nor the Master Password used to secure it, so this isn't something we can 'reset' for you to help directly. However, please try the tips in this guide as they may help you gain access again:

If that doesn't help though, you will need to either restore from a backup, sync from another device, or simply start over. You can try as many times as you want. You won’t be “locked out”, but you will not be able to access your data unless you can enter the required Master Password correctly. Please let me know how it turns out.

It has taken some time to achieve the restoration of 1Password on my new iPhone 7. I had to first delete the 1Password 5 backup from iCloud. For some reason 1Password 7.0.6 had not overwritten the original 1Password 5 backup. It was this backup which prevented me from following your advice and making me more and more frustrated. IoS 11.4 is a complicated animal where my initial research proved to be of no avail. I hope my explanation may be of help to others faced with a similar predicament.

P.S. When setting up the Stand Alone version on an iPhone or iPad it will always defer to the iCloud backup if you have one. This to prevents installation, and another reason to delete the older backup.

I'm glad if you were able to get things setup the way you wanted. But to clarify, 1Password does not default to anything; it offers iCloud as one of many options to setup the app, including starting over with a new vault or syncing from somewhere else. It sounds like you should be all set, but we're here if you have any questions. Have a great weekend! :)
