Making text bold with Markdown not working

When I put a double asterisk before and after some text to make it bold, nothing happens, except the double asterisks appear.

Suspect I am doing something silly!

Extension Version: 4.7.2
OS Version: 10.13.6
Sync Type: subscriptrion

    @mikebore - is this in an actual Secure Note, or just the notes field of another type of record? If it's the latter, that'll be your explanation: it doesn't work anywhere (yet) except for Secure notes.

    Yes it is the notes field of another type of record. Thanks the quick response and explanation.

    Looking forward to it being available more generally.
