Why does 1password ask for Mac Password for update? Is it safe?

Opened my Mac and saw 1password updating to 7.1 from 7.0.7 but then it asked for my Mac pw (see screenshot). I don't recall seeing this before. Is this safe? One KB note from last year said it is not normal. Can't find any other KB on this. My 1PW is set to auto update.
