One Time Password on mac client is WRONG

Hi, so I'm using a one time password for a 2FA login and the one being displayed in my mac computer does not work with the login (5 unsuccessful attempts) so instead I decided to open up 1Password on my mobile device, then I noticed that the codes being displayed in the mobile app differ from the ones in the desktop app, and using the ones in the android version actually work, so I guess it must be an issue with the timestamp in the macOS version

  • @eloytoro,

if you open up the date & time preferences in System Preferences does your clock update its time to be the current time? 2FA codes are time based, so any drift in your computer's clock (and subsequent failures to update via ntp) will cause the generated 2FA code to potentially be outside of the window of acceptance (generally servers will accept the previous and the next codes to account for some small drift).

Thanks for the super quick response.
Yes, it seems that my computer was running 44 seconds behind on the clock, pretty hard to notice that at first.
After syncing to apple's time server the discrepancy was solved.
