Filling in FULL NAME in form fields . . .

Hi. You guys addressed this problem 3 years ago in 2015. 1Password was at Version 5.

https://discussions.agilebits.com/discussion/48026/can-an-identity-fill-in-my-full-name. The discussion was closed.

More sites are using fields like Full Name instead of the two fields First Name and Last Name. And it is distinctly different from Username which 1Password seems able to fill.

Three years ago you guys begged off on dealing with this issue as it was apparently not possible or other things had a higher priority.

I'd like you to revisit the issue so that form fields that are labeled Full Name or just Name are filled in correctly by 1Password by concatenating First Name + space + Last Name when encountered.

1Password Version: 7.1.2

@FogCityNative: To clarify, all discussions that old will be closed. And I think you're taking some pretty big liberties interpreting lil bobby 's reply there, as I see no begging or mention of priority. Certainly though something like this is going to have be a lower priority not only because login filling improvements help more people day to day, but because having a single "name" field is considerably less common than separate fields for first and last name. But you're right, it's worth revisiting. If we can find a way to improve this for you without breaking things for others, and without detracting from the work we need to do on things that get more, everyone wins. If you have any examples, that would be helpful for future testing, as these cases are few and far between. Thanks for bringing it up. :)

Thanks for your response. No offense intended. Basically, he said webform filling was important but there are so many different websites that it isn't an easy task to fix every possible instance of log-in screens.

Here's one you can use for testing: https://www.apple.com/feedback/macos.html

I fixed it under my Identities by adding a field labeled "name" that contains my full name. [https://goo.gl/wqZ8ca] which solves the problem for this particular web form.

If I come across other web forms that just ask for full name, I will try to come back here and add the links.

@FogCityNative: You're very welcome. None taken. Just want to make sure we're on the same page, and that's a fantastic example. Thank you! :)

However, weirdly, I'm not having any trouble getting 1Password to fill my full name — both first and last — into that form, and my name is stored in the two separate default fields in 1Password. Are you sure you're having trouble filling there? The Google link gives me a 404, if that's relevant.

The Google Link when pasted into the message seems to repeat the link three times. It is probably necessary formatting to display properly on the forum. I edited it which probably broke it.

    Try this please:

I am using Dropshare and still in learning mode.

  • Greetings @FogCityNative,

So there's a bit of confusion to clear by the looks of it. 1Password currently won't use custom fields for filling, filling is limited to default fields in certain types of items (those being Login, Identity, Credit Card and Password) so adding a custom field with label name to an Identity item won't see that used. You can test this by replacing the name in the field with something completely different. Like Brenty when I test filling at https://www.apple.com/feedback/macos.html I find an Identity item fills the first two fields, the name and email address ones.

In the past one reason I've seen for issues with Identity items is if the item was created from imported data from a non-1Password source. In those instances creating a new Identity item ensures the right fields are created.

You may also find filling doesn't work great on a specific form, for those we like to investigate each in turn and file issues where needed.
