Instagram Woes

So Instagram finally have 2FA from within the app but they will not recognise 1Password which is also on my device. They are asking me to install Google authenticator or some other app I've never even heard of.

Is there any way to do this. They offer manual options but I simply cannot understand what they want me to do?

Why can't they just support 1Password?

Kind Regards

I don't use Instagram myself, and a bit of checking suggested that they are using an uncommon method of setting up an authenticator.

The thread https://discussions.agilebits.com/discussion/comment/464979#Comment_464979 looks as though it provides a solution, though.

You would also need to look at the 1PW instructions for setting up one-time passwords manually.

Instagram has the 2FA only via SMS?
Anyway, I do not see anything else there.

  • I was only able to see an SMS option as well for my account. It is possible they are slowly rolling the feature out, and that it isn’t available to all accounts yet. Only way to tell would be to contact the Instagram support team.

I think, from the googling I did, that this is what is happening. Certainly, quite a bit of the advice, both from Instagram and elsewhere, gives details of using an authenticator (though, unless one installs manually, they have a restricted choice of authenticators).

I managed to get it to work now. Thanks to everyone who chimed in.

  • Thanks for the update @JasonN. Glad to hear you got it working.
