I bought a standalone license 5 years ago, upgrade Mac to 7, and now vault disabled on iPhone
I share my vault via Dropbox between Mac, 2 iPhones and 2 iPads. After upgrading to 7 on the Mac, yesterday, Oct 8 2018, it converted the vault and my iPhones and iPads aren't sharing the vault anymore. I can't update the vault on the Mac as it saids I need to purchase a license. If I update the local vault on my other devices, the change won't be shared. A license key wasn't provided 5 years ago, and now it seems I have to purchase 1Password again.
What do I need to do to share my vault across my Apple devices, and do I have to buy another license?

@mghenderson55: Thanks for reaching out. I’m sorry for the confusion! It sounds like you just need to configure your other devices to use the same OPVault you have setup on the Mac. You can find the sync path in 1Password for Mac Preferences > Sync.
Regarding licensing, if you purchased 1Password for Mac five years ago, that will have been for a much, much older version. You'd need to either purchase a license for the current version, sign up for a 1Password.com membership (which includes the latest version of all of the apps), or go back to using the version you already paid for — just keep in mind that only the current version of 1Password will support the current OS and browser releases.
I hope this helps. Be sure to let me know if you have any other questions! :)

Thanks for the info Brenty. When I bought it in 2013, I thought I was all set for life! I guess I should feel lucky I've used it all these years and only had to pay that initial cost.
I was able to connect up by 2 iPhones and 2 iPads to the new vault and it seems to be working fine except I can't update the vault from the iMac. Read only.
Maybe I need to get a membership, and we are a family of 2, my wife and I. It looks like I should buy the family option, though I'm buying more than I need since I don't have any children living at home.

@mghenderson55: Totally. While the license you purchased will never expire, it's only for the specific version you paid for. We're not able to sell "lifetime licenses" because we'd all have to get jobs doing something else besides making 1Password. We'd have been in big trouble years ago without folks supporting so we can continue making 1Password even better, and supporting all the latest technologies. :)
Even without kids, 1Password Families is a great option: it's cheaper than two individual memberships, includes all of the apps for both of you, and makes it super easy to share vaults securely together (while still each having your own personal data). It also allows you to easily [share vaults securely and help family members recover their accounts if they get locked out — along with many other benefits.
Also keep in mind that you can absolutely invite family membership not living with you, like grown children, parents, etc. How you define your family is up to you. I hope this helps. Be sure to let me know if you have any other questions! :)

I understand and get. I want you all to keep working!
I will get the family subscription. I can use one membership as part of my estate planning.
Thanks for your explanation and help.

@mghenderson55: Hey, thanks for your support! I think you'll really like it. Since you mentioned estate planning, you may want to check out the guest feature, since that allows you to invite someone to share a single vault with them:
Share with guests in 1Password Families
Cheers! :)

That’s perfect for my situation. I also have a 16 year old grandson that lives with us so I could share specific items like wifi password, Netflix, Hulu, etc.
Thanks!!

@mghenderson55: Yeah, I thought that might help. :) Indeed, for the grandson a guest account might be best since then he'd only have access to a single vault you share with him. So that allows you to sort of curate what goes there if you want, and you could even make it read-only. A guest doesn't have their own Private vault at all, and this can either be ideal or less-than, depending on the person.
Typically for something like Netflix though, you'd probably want that in the family-wide Shared vault, since others probably need that too. So I'm not sure either is a perfect fit in this case, but I'm happy to brainstorm with you as you get things setup for you and your loved ones. :)

I’ve created my account, and my wife’s so far. So, we both have Private vaults. I would like to copy all my items in my private vault and put them in my family shared vault because we are just used to sharing everything anyway. Is there a way to copy an entire vault to another versus copying one item at a time?
Then I can do the guest vault for my grandson and that would work well because he would want the minimal amount of effort.

@mghenderson55: Sounds good. :) You can select multiple items to move or copy them to another vault by holding the
⌘
key when selecting, or press⌘ A
to select all. Cheers! :)0 -
Thanks! That’s exactly what I need.
Sorry. Another question. On my iPad, and iPhone, I have a vault called Primary that is local on my device. It seems like I should delete that because all my accounts are in 2 places, the Primary vault and the Shared vault. But when I go to delete the Primary it asks for my vault password. Is it OK to delete it?

@mghenderson55: If you have all of your data in your account (be sure to sign into 1Password.com in your browser to verify!) then it is safe, and best, to delete the Primary vault. You can also do that by disabling local vaults in Preferences > Advanced. Have a great weekend! Here if you have any other questions. :)
