Welcome to the forum, @jossiekat! You do not have to subscribe to a 1Password membership to use 1Password 7 for Mac if you don't want to; we have standalone licenses available if you prefer that. If you want a standalone license, you'll need to have the version of 1Password 7 downloaded directly from our downloads page, since the Mac App Store version is subscription-only in 1Password 7 for Mac. But once you have version 7 installed, the purchase options screen will give you the opportunity to purchase a standalone license -- and right now, they're on sale for the "launch special" price of $49.99, which is a 23% savings off the eventual full retail price of $64.99.
