1Password extension doesn't work after fresh install

Did a fresh install of macOS Mojave after wiping my HD. Installed 1Password, and the main app works fine, but extension doesn't work in Safari or Chrome (although extension shows installed with icon), and clicking on icon does nothing or shows the following:

1Password Version: 7.2.1
Extension Version: 7.2.1
OS Version: 10.14
Sync Type: Dropbox

    @andesvirgo - I'm sorry for the trouble. What did you have set up prior to "wiping your HD?" What specific version of macOS and of 1Password, I mean? And how did you go about re-installing things afterward? If you look in Safari (or Chrome)'s extensions, what do you see there in terms of 1Password extensions?

    Same versions of OS and 1Password (latest 10.14 and 7.2.1) from before the fresh install. Point is moot now, because all it took was a restart of my Mac to make the extension functional again. All good now, but wonder why there was a extension failure in the first place?
