Welcome to the forum, @cswoods! Sorry for the trouble you're experiencing. However, without a little more information, it's hard to say what might be going on. Can you tell us:

1. The specific version of 1Password you have installed
2. The specific version of 1Password extension in Firefox
3. The specific version of macOS you have on your Mac
4. How you sync your data (1Password account, iCloud, Dropbox, etc).

Also, when you say "grayed out," what do you mean? What's grayed out, the extension in Firefox's menubar? In the extensions panel within Add-Ons?
