    Hello @ttim03,

We don't recommend using both at the same time. I've filed a bug report where we found that the 1Password X extension wouldn't connect to a 1Password account if both 2FA was enabled and the companion extension was also present and enabled.

Outside of that particular scenario. If you use either 1Password for Mac or Windows with a licence and standalone vaults then you would want the standard companion extension. As only the native client has knowledge of standalone vaults you need an extension that communicates with it. For our 1Password account users they have either option. While 1Password X was originally designed to add support for the likes of ChromeOS and Linux where we don't have a native 1Password application there is nothing stopping a user from using 1Password X on both macOS and Windows and a lot of people do. As it is a standalone extension its unlocked state does not mirror the native application and if the browser is terminated for any reason 1Password X will revert to a locked state as it cannot maintain anything without the browser. In time I believe 1Password X will be the only extension required but we have some work before we reach that point.
