    I bought 1Password and why do i have to pay a membership ?

    You don't have to get a membership. However, if you bought a licence some time ago you will need to pay for a new licence for the new version of 1PW.

    I believe membership is the best way to go, see https://support.1password.com/why-membership/ , but we ( users such as myself and AgileBits staff) can advise you of other options once we know more about your setup (which version of 1PW you bought, what OS you are on, whether you are just using Macs or whether you have a variety of devices using different platforms, etc).

    Right; as danco alluded licenses are for a specific version of 1Password. They don’t include newer versions than what is listed on the license (e.x. A 1Password 6 for Mac license does not include 1Password 7 for Mac). Subscription memberships on the other hand do include new versions. If your license is for an older version and you’d like to upgrade I’d highly recommend looking closely at the membership route.
