I can't create new Smart Folders in the stand alone version

I have the latest "stand alone" version of 1Password for Mac - 6.8.8 (688001). All my previous Smart Folders display and work correctly. I can even create a new one. But when I select parameters to populate the new folder, nothing happens. I know they got rid of Smart Folders in the subscription version, but they are still supposed to work properly in the stand alone version. Any tips would be appreciated.

@whydavewhy - 6.8.8 is not the latest version of 1Password for Mac -- in fact, it is not even the latest version of 1Password 6 for Mac. The current version of 1Password for Mac is 1Password 7 for Mac, version 7.2.2, and the final version of 1Password 6 for Mac was 6.8.9. Version 7 can be used with either a standalone license or a 1password.com membership. There really isn't any "standalone version" vs "subscription version" -- both methods use the same 1Password for Mac app, whether version 6 or version 7.

Smart Folders were (and are) a Mac-only feature that was leveraged on the back of capabilities in macOS. They're currently sort of in suspended animation because we'd like to make such a thing available across platforms and also on the 1password.com servers, but that can't be done using the current Mac-specific implementation. Smart Folders are basically saved searches, and what's needed is to find a way to implement them in a way that works cross-platform, so the experience is consistent between devices.

That said, you're correct that Smart Folders are still available in 6.8.x of 1Password for Mac. To create one, you would:

    1. Click File > New Smart Folder
    2. Enter your search parameters as in this example, then click "Save":
    3. This will save it into the Smart Folders section of the main 1Password window's left sidebar, where you'll see a prompt to name this new search. Give it an appropriate name, and your search (Smart Folder) will be saved.

    Hope that helps! :)

    +1

Just went to clean up my database a bit using smart folders and a new vault and found…I couldn't find them. I really don't want to manually sift through 1,200+ items manually to find recently updated items (and other criteria).

@ElBeavers - thanks for the feedback. You can set the sort criteria for any vault by "Date Modified" or "Date Created" and find newly created/edited items that way, if that's what you're after.

  • Not in the near future, no, but at some point... possibly. We'd like to bring saved searches to 1Password.com vaults but it isn't something that is currently being worked on.
