Should detect new username work when changing an email address?

I have recently had to go through a number of my web site accounts and change the email address. Many of these sites use the email address as a username for logging in.

For some reason, when I use the new username, 1password isn't detecting the change -- either as a new account, or a change to an existing account. Is this the expected behavior?

Without detecting the change, I'm left with a number of login credentials in 1Password with the correct password but an incorrect username.

Thank you for your help,
Peter Pinch

    Hi @pdpinch1pw,

While it would be great if 1Password did react to a change in the username, getting it accurate enough that false positives don't drive people crazy is a tougher challenge than you might think. Even change password forms come in a variety of designs that leave potential for false positives and that's something as focussed as a password field. Given everything from text, email, telephone and number types are used for usernames and each of those types have several other uses making sure we only prompted when we should and not because a seemingly simple site actually has hundreds of fields with all sorts of junk in them isn't as cut and dry as you'd suspect.

I may not even be part of the popular thinking within 1Password but my own preference is usernames should be manually updated given how infrequently this task may happen even compared to how often a person changes passwords. That way 1Password has nice predictable behaviour. Others may easily disagree with me of course
