Can we auto save changes?

Options

It seems odd that clicking on a note, you can't just edit it. You need to click "edit" first. It also seems odd that it doesn't auto-save. Just saying. I have just been bitten by this, losing a new note entirely because it was left in the desktop app, unsaved. At least that's the only explanation I can find, since that note is not in the trash, and it's been at most 11 days.

  • Hi @yulmathieu,

    Thanks for writing in.

It seems odd that clicking on a note, you can't just edit it. You need to click "edit" first.

1Password is not a text editor, it is a secure credential manager; it's designed to protect your data which means being very careful with your intentions, which is why you have to click edit and save explicitly in case you want to cancel any changes you're making. If you edit and 1Password autosave, you may not be able to revert it easily. 1Password does not have a revision history, it only shows you the current data it has. For standalone vaults, if you make a mistake, you'd have to restore a backup of the vault manually, find the item, copy the note and then update the vault while removing the backup. For 1Password, you have item history you can use on the website (https://support.1password.com/item-history/).

It also seems odd that it doesn't auto-save.

However, as last resort to prevent any potential data loss, 1Password do automatically save changes when you terminate the app without realizing the item was still pending in the main interface or if you try to edit another item. We just don't do it while 1Password is still in the middle of a session because we don't know if you're going to come back to add more information or you want to undo it since 1Password automatically locks by default.
