1Password for Safari extension stopped working

I just updated to 1Password 8 version 8.7.0-41. The 1Password for Safari icon in the Safari toolbar disappeared. When I go to Safari, Preferences, Extensions, the 1Password extension is no longer listed. I uninstalled and reinstalled both apps to no avail. I am using a 2021 M1 iMac running macOS 12.3.1. The Safari extension app is running but it does not function at all.

For comparison, I just did the exact same update on my older 2017 Intel iMac running the same software and it works normally!

Any advice?

    Hello,

    having the same issue, this hint doesn't work for me (and I do not want to wipe my whole harddrive ;-) ). Is there anything else I could do?

    Hey @eishapiro:

    This appears to be a known bug with macOS and Safari Web Extensions, I'm sincerely sorry that you had to go the route of reinstalling macOS. I'll leave the steps to resolve this here, in case it happens again.

    1. Close all open web browsers.
    2. Open the Terminal app on your Mac: https://support.apple.com/guide/terminal/open-or-quit-terminal-apd5265185d-f365-44cb-8b09-71a064a42125/mac
    3. Paste the following into Terminal and then press enter to run the command: /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Support/lsregister -f -R /Applications/Safari.app
    4. Open Safari and try to enable 1Password for Safari again.

    I wiped my hard drive and reinstalled the MacOS along with 1Password 8 beta and now all is well. I do not know what caused the program to malfunction.
