1Password not generating OTP

Hello,

I scanned QR code for one time code in one of the enteries in 1Passowrd. One password gave me a 6 digit code on scanning that I registered with the website. Now when I try to login to website and go to 1Password for one time code, it is showing an error message in one time code field. If there was an error in URL, why did it register that one time code in the first place. I am now locked out of target site. It gave me a code to register with the site and saved my entry. Now it is giving me error next time. Any way to get the one time code generator to run as it should have saved all the necessary info.

Error message:

one-time password
The one-time pasword URL is incorrect. check the URL and try again. if you still have trouble, contact support

  • The issue was not that the OTP was not accepted on the site but  that 1Password was no longer generating OTP code and instead showing an error about URL in the field where it normally shows the OTP. I opened a support ticket and the conclusion was somehow data in 1Password got corrupted during a change to that entry (for its name or something else).  They showed that there is a way to revert to an older version of the entry. Once we reverted it, 1Password started generating OTP code again and I was able to get back into the site.

So in short reason was a bug/corruption on 1Password side during an update and solution was reverting to older version of the entry.

  • Hello teezee! 👋

I'm sorry that your one-time password isn't being accepted by a certain website. One-time passwords in 1Password follow the TOTP standard and it’s important that your device’s date/time isn’t more than 30 seconds off. The one-time password changes every 30 seconds, so if your device is more than 30 seconds off, you’ll see an incorrect code.

To check the date and time settings on all your devices, visit this website on each of your devices and make sure the time matches:

If the date and time on a device doesn’t match exactly, you can adjust it:

Then try to sign in using your one-time password from 1Password again. Let me know if that still doesn't work.
