Hardware Category

I like using categories in 1Password but would really like if they added a way to add your own categories or make one for hardware that isn't a router or server.  For example i have several things such as laptops, desktops, tablets, smart water controllers, etc. and it would be nice to have a category for things that are password protected.  If there is a way to do any of this please let me know.

  • Hi Eagole thank you for sharing those details.

While I can’t make any promises, I’ve filed a feature request internally with our Product team to let them know you would like to be able to create custom item categories. They regularly review feature requests from our customers to consider what should be added to future versions of 1Password. Your feedback, along with feedback from our other customers, helps them immensely with their planning.

Let me know if you have any questions!

I have the same ask as Eagole - I have been using either a logon or router, but as soon as you put that item into an item that is hidden... Currently only a password watch tower flags it as something that is weak.  I'm seeing if this is still being watched.  Also PIN is what I rename a password filed, but most pins will at most be 8 digits.  It still should not be visible as it really is only protecting a physical thing.  ATM card, physical Fido key, PIV Cert in a cert slot.  Please 1P_Timothy how can we get a hardware item or something that handles yubico keys, atm cards, laptops, etc...

Hi aszajlai, thanks for joining the conversation.

As I mentioned in my previous reply, if you have a specific use case in mind it's typically best to start with the item type with the most cross over, then customize it to suite your needs. If you use the credentials to sign in anywhere digitally, I would recommend a Login item type.

For PINs getting flagged by Watchtower, there are a couple options. Watchtower checks the default password field in Login and Password items, so if you're starting with one of those items you could add a secondary field and save the PIN there. Alternatively you can just select the "Ignore" button in the watchtower alert banner.

I have been using either a logon or router, but as soon as you put that item into an item that is hidden...

Could you share a bit more about what's getting hidden here, or what sort of issue you're running into? Thanks again!

I'm sorry...  I only see two values that have an auto hide, with reveal.  They are password or one-time password.  With the password field really being the only one, but it is scanned by Watchtower.  I'm also seeing that watchtower is scanning router types.  Is there a document that helps answer additional details about watchtower scans.  I like this feature so I would like it to keep scanning things to help keep real password's sanitized.  Please let me know if this makes it better vs still need additional details.

Hi Eagole! Thanks for writing in.

Short answer is that there isn't a custom item option when creating a new item in 1Password. What I would typically recommend for this would be to start with a Secure Note, or the item with the most crossover, then add, remove, and rename fields until it suits the type of information you're trying to save. For your scenario, starting with a Software License, or Wireless Router item could work. For helping to group these items, you could move them to their own vault, or use tags

That said, I'd be happy to share your interest in a custom item, or custom template option with the team. Could you share any additional details about the options you'd like to see available with such a feature, or how frequently you might use it?

    Thanks again!

Sorry for the late response, i somehow missed this a while ago.  Basically every piece of hardware such as my personal laptop, desktop, work computer, tablets, smart watches all need some kind of login to keep it secure but there is no category for these.  There are ways around it but it would be convenient to be able to have a category or even be able to create a category with customizable fields.
