Thanks for the ping. I'll answer your questions below:

If they plug-in is not integrated with the 1Password client, what exactly is it doing? Interacting with my local 1Password database directly and bypassing the client?

If app integration is turned off, the 1Password browser extension creates a connections with 1Password.com instead.

When I use this new setup, it defaults to wanting me to type in my password. I have to click the fingerprint icon to use biometrics. Is there a way to default to biometrics? If not, please accept this as a feature request.

At this stage, you cannot set biometrics as default in 1Password for Safari. I'll be happy to share your feedback with our product team.
