Scan QR code greyed out on mac

I'm using 1password 8.11.6, I have downloaded 1password through the website. When I try clicking on the qr code icon to scan a otp qr code nothing happens. The icon is also grayed out.

I have gone to settings to manually give screen recording permissions to 1password but it still doesn't work. What's mostly frustrating is that it just fails silently with no explanation of why it's not working

What can I do to make this feature work again?

Side note: I really miss 1password 7. It worked so much better. Dates were properly formatted according to the system settings, Thanks to accessibility permissions, autofill worked in a lot more android applications. When signing up on a website, it was more accurate in detecting that a new user was created and offering to save it. It saved any new password generated centrally as a password instead of just keeping the history in the browser...  Only advantage of the new version so far is passkey support.

  • Hi folks

Version 8.11.10 is available now and should fix this. I'm sorry for the inconvenience!

I have had similar problems recently (past 3 months).  The QR Scanner button on the one-time password field used to properly capture a QR Code that was visible on the screen of my MacOS Sequoia (15.6.1)....however, recently, nothing happens when I try to capture the QR code.

Previously, 1Password would even show a brief message if the QR Code could not be detected, but this message is not displayed either.  When I press on the button, nothing happens anymore.

I have tried quitting 1Password and re-opening, turning off the system setting (shown below) and restarting 1Password and also restarting the computer.  Nothing has helped.

Of course, I could use 1Password on my phone and capture the QR code in the 1Password iPhone app (as mentioned in the marked solution), but these are extra steps I prefer not to have to do.  It was nice when it was integrated and working on the computer alone.

I guess I will have to use the workaround until the Production version comes out since I am a little nervous about switching back and forth between beta and Production versions.

    Current version of 1Password:  8.11.8

Below are a couple of screen shots.

I'm sorry that you're also affected by the issue. We hope to release a fix to the production version of 1Password soon.

Thank you for the information that you both provided. Our developers are working on a fix for an issue in the 1Password desktop app where the "Scan QR code" button isn't working as expected when adding a one-time password (OTP) field.

As a temporary workaround, you can use either the 1Password mobile app or 1Password in the browser to scan the QR code.

A fix is currently being tested in the beta version of 1Password and we hope to release it to the production version as soon as possible.

I am seeing the same issue on 1Password 8.11.8 for Mac.  When I click the "Scan QR Code" button nothing happens, and the QR code icon is greyed out.  I tried quitting 1Password and re-opening from the Applications folder and that didn't fix it.  I had an external display connected, but disconnecting it did not fix anything either.

I'm sorry that you're seeing the same issue. Can you post a screenshot of the greyed out Scan QR Code button? This will help me to better understand the situation.

In the following UI, clicking on "Scan QR Code" does nothing:

And also, clicking on this button when editing a "one-time password" entry does nothing:

        This is 1Password for Mac 8.11.8 (81108040), on Sequioa 15.6.1 (24G90).

  • Hello semraae! 👋

I'm sorry that you're running into an issue with the QR code scanner. Sometimes, after granting the correct screen recording permission macOS will need you to restart the app: right-click on the 1Password icon in the menu and then click Quit. Then re-open 1Password from your Applications folder.

I also recommend that you update to 1Password for Mac version 8.11.8. If you still see the same issue after restarting and updating the app then can you post a screenshot of the icon so that I can take a look?

Dates were properly formatted according to the system settings,

I've replied to your post about date formatting here

Thanks to accessibility permissions, autofill worked in a lot more android applications. When signing up on a website, it was more accurate in detecting that a new user was created and offering to save it.

Can you tell me a little more about which specific apps/browsers/websites you're running into autofill issues on when using your Android device?

It saved any new password generated centrally as a password instead of just keeping the history in the browser...

You can find password generator history, as you mentioned, in 1Password in the browser: If you used the password generator and can’t find the password to sign in

You can also find previously used passwords through password history: View and restore previous versions of items

That being said, I'd love to pass along your feedback to the team. Can you tell me a little more about how you'd like password generator history to work?
