Tabbing between input fields when editing

When editing an item in the 1Password desktop app and the cursor is in an input field, pressing tab selects the Delete username button, then the 3-lines sort element, then the next fields label, and then finally into the next input field, ready to type.

When doing the same in the 1Password Web app, it tabs straight to next fields label, and then to the next input field, missing out the UI elements.

So the desktop app requires 4 tab presses instead of 2 to move to the next input field. Having TAB also select UI elements rather than just input fields is not typical of macOS apps, and is quite annoying!

As the desktop app and web app are inconsistent with each other, which one is behaving as designed?

Ideally, I'd like some way to tab directly (with one press) to the next input field to speed up editing.

  • Hello snozdop! 👋

I’m sorry your post didn’t receive a reply earlier. I’ve done some testing and found that this behaviour differs slightly between the 1Password desktop app and the web app, and can also vary depending on the browser you’re using. In Chrome, the web app behaves the same as the desktop app. In Safari, however, the behaviour matches the more simplified steps you described.

I’ve opened an internal work item for our development team to investigate further and see how we can standardize and improve this experience across platforms. Thank you for taking the time to report this and for sharing your feedback on how we can improve the editing keyboard workflow in 1Password.
