Rails integration

Hi,

I've been reading today about how you can integrate 1Password with Rails Kamal.

Can I integrate 1Password with the regular Rails Credentials file?

If so, is there any documentation for this?

Hi rctneil, I’m really sorry to hear about your experience, and I completely understand your frustration. It sounds like you’ve been trying to get help for a while, and I apologize for the lack of response.

Let’s address your original question and see if we can get you the information you need.

    Integrating 1Password with Rails Credentials

While 1Password doesn’t have direct, out-of-the-box integration with Rails Credentials, you can use 1Password to securely store your secrets and then manually or programmatically inject them into your Rails Credentials file.

Here’s a general approach to achieve this:

    1. Store Secrets in 1Password: Store your Rails secrets (e.g., API keys, database credentials) in 1Password as secure notes or items.
    2. Export Secrets: Use the 1Password CLI to retrieve these secrets. You can install the CLI by following the 1Password CLI documentation.
    3. Inject Secrets into Rails Credentials: Once you’ve retrieved the secrets using the CLI, you can write a script to inject them into your config/credentials.yml.enc file.

In the credentials file, you can then reference the retrieved secrets.
    4. Automate the Process: You can automate this process by writing a script that retrieves the secrets from 1Password and updates the Rails credentials file as part of your deployment or development workflow.

    Documentation

While there isn’t specific documentation for integrating 1Password with Rails Credentials, you can refer to the following resources for guidance:

Still nothing? Come on 1Password? Honestly, what is going on?

You really are making me not want to continue using the app, don't make me leave using the app just because of your terrible support recently. I know you can do better.

What is going on here? 1Password support in this forum and the test community has been terrible. I post messages and posts and they get ignored. I'm seriously getting fed up of it.

I've been a very loyal and longtime 1Password user and love it and recommend it all the time to family / friends / introduced it in my workplace etc. But i'm getting to the point that the experience in the forums and communities is making me not want to bother anymore.

You used to have INCREDIBLE customer support on this forum. What's happened? I feel soooo let down. Seriously. I do.

I never got a solid answer as to why my posts went to a random spam folder on the beta community (apart from the fact that happened). No idea why I was singled out. And now i'm just totally ignored on here.

Please pick up your game. Reach out to me as, right now, i'm not a happy user.

    Very disappointed. Bye.

      Hey again rctneil đź‘‹

While I know we spoke via email earlier today about this thread, I wanted to comment here to make it crystal-clear that your experience here is not one we anyone to have, and I’m really sorry for how this played out.

Just to recap, I did find that some of your recent posts were mistakenly caught by our spam filter. That shouldn’t have happened, and I’ve made sure those posts have been restored while also putting safeguards in place to prevent this from happening again.

As for the beta Community, there was an issue late in testing where a small number of users (yourself included) had their posts incorrectly flagged as spam. Unfortunately, that wasn’t caught in time before the beta wrapped up, and since all beta content was archived before launch, those posts didn’t carry over. I completely understand why that was frustrating, and I should have provided a clearer explanation sooner — that’s on me.

I truly appreciate you sticking with us while we work through these growing pains, and I want to make sure you continue to have a great experience here. If anything still seems off or if you run into any more issues, please don’t hesitate to reach out, we're always happy to help.

Thanks again for your patience and for being such a dedicated part of the 1Password Community.
