    Hi @lynnlklein,

Please try to install 1Password 7.2 and check if it updates to the latest version of 1Password 7 available. Thank you! :+1:

    Hi Greg,

1Password 7.2 installed fine and is running fine. It is not updating to 7.3. I did get a popup saying 7.3 was available but I chose not to install it. If you want, I can go ahead and do it just to see what happens.

    Best regards,
    Lynn

  • There's no harm in giving it a try, @lynnlklein. Ultimately, you will likely want to be able to use the latest version of 1Password, so the more we can learn about what's going wrong for you the better. :+1:

From within the app, I selected "1Password>Update to 7.3.684." It uninstalled 7.2 and nothing happened after that.

    I manually installed 7.2 again.

Then I chose 1Password from the system tray and selected "Update available..." -- it uninstalled 7.2 and nothing happened after that.

I manually installed 7.2 again and I'm leaving it at that.

@lynnlklein, this is quite strange. Have you tried removing app folder from %LOCALAPPDATA% before installing 7.2 again? This is one of the steps I shared above. Please let me know. Thanks!

Yes, I removed that folder but I still got the same error when trying to install 7.3.*.
    I'm sticking with 7.2 for now. :-)

HI, I'm seeing exactly the same behaviour where the install for 7.3.684 fails but 7.2 installs fine with the auto update turned off.

I'm running Windows 10 but no other software that would be restricting the file naming.

    Hi @lynnlklein,

I went ahead and sent you an email. Let's continue our conversation there and investigate. Thanks! :+1:

@toongser: Have you had any previous versions of 1Password 6 installed on this computer? Do you have any kind of AV/anti-malware software? Please let us know.

    Cheers,
    Greg

    Hi @Greg

I have only had version 7 installed - I'm running Windows Defender

Any resolution to this issue? I'm having same problem as others for v7.3.684. Got the same IO error message when running exe for first time on Windows 7.

I do get the 1Password folder installed, along with the folder and files for "app", "logs", "data".

I tried deleting the 1Password folder, but it won't go away.

Here is content of one of the logs (I tried installing 5 times):
    [2019-05-27 23:22:08.813285 -05:00] INFO [starter] starter\src\main.rs:196: starter 7.3.684

I get 1Password executable in the App folder. I ran the executable.

However, the application does not show up in the "All Programs" folder, so the install does not look completed yet.

Is there a fix to this issue yet?

I have folder for 1Password, with additional nested folders and files inside:
    1Password
    -- app
    --- 7.3.684
    ---- 1password.brain
    ---- 1password
    ---- 1Password (executable)
    ---- ChromeManifest.json
    ---- FirefoxManifest.json
    -- logs
    --- setup (folder)
---- 6 log files for each time i ran the install (i won't type the filenames here because they're too long)
    --- 2019-05-28 (text file)

    Replaced username with

Despite the error, I can run the 1Password executable.

However, the application doesn't show up in "All Programs".

Any idea why the install isn't completing properly?

    Hi @who1969,

Sorry for the troubles. Have you seen the steps I shared in this thread above? Please try to do the following now:

    1) Close all of your browsers.

    2) Uninstall 1Password 6 or 1Password 7, if you see those versions in installed apps.

    3) Open Start menu, type %LOCALAPPDATA% there, and press Enter.

    4) Find 1Password folder there and move it (cut and paste) to your desktop.

    5) Reboot your PC.

    6) Run this installer of 1Password and check if the issue remains.

    Thanks! :+1:

Possibly resurrecting a dead thread, but it seemed like the most recent one. I ran into the same issue a few days ago, assumed the computer was just being weird and it would go away on a restart, but it persisted. I tried pretty much everything mentioned in this thread, but In the end it turned out that the Windows 10 "Connected User Experiences and Telemetry" service was keeping the 1Password.exe open forever, and preventing the updater from renaming the "apps" folder to "prev" to complete the update.

I was able to fix the problem by temporarily stopping that service, then running the updater - hit Windows key, type 'services' to open the Services management window, find the "Connected User Experiences and Telemetry" service and hit 'Stop the service'. When it's finished, make sure browsers etc are closed then try to run the update.

  • That is very odd, I've never seen that to be an issue for us in the past. We'll try to reach out to Microsoft to see what's going on in there.

Thanks for letting us know, @Giometric.
