Trying to upgrade from 1password 4 to 1password7 and it won't download.
Chrome extension stopped working. After some research it looks like I have to get a new release of 1 password. I am running windows 10.

Thanks for reporting this.
Did you try 1Password 6 in the past? If yes, there is an issue where 1Password 7.3 can't read it and crashes. We're working on fixing it.
For now, install 1Password 7.2 here: https://c.1password.com/dist/1P/win6/1PasswordSetup-7.2.617.exe and then see if it works. If yes, it should prompt to update you to 1Password 7.3 without any issues.

It is asking me to sign in and for a secret key. I don't remember ever having one. How do I check this and find it?

That's only for your own 1Password.com account that you have to sign up for, you wouldn't have an account if you were using 1Password 4. You can choose to migrate to a 1Password.com membership if you want, you can find out more here: https://support.1password.com/explore/membership/
If you do not want 1Password.com membership, you should see the other options on the bottom to open the existing vault via Dropbox or Folder Sync.
Use Folder Sync to open the existing vault from 1Password 4. If you didn't sync before, you should find 1Password.opvault or 1Password.agilekeychain in your Documents > 1Password directory.
