Can you give Groups access to specific Categories? Or something like that?

I'm new to 1Password, coming from LastPass and I'm looking for recommendations on how to approach the following:

I have staff, in different departments. I believe these are Groups in 1Password.

I have clients. I believe these are Vaults in 1Password.

Groups like Accounting need access to store, view and edit client card details in the Credit Card Category.

But Groups like Programmers should not. Rather they need access to credentials in Server Category.

Managers need access to both.

But it seems I cannot achieve this with 1Password because I can only give Groups access to a whole Vault, rather than specific items or Categories.

Hi @s3w47m88! Welcome to the forum!

Groups and permissions work at the vault level. You cannot have different permissions within the same vault, but you can definitely use multiple vaults to achieve the same result.

For example, you could create two vaults and three groups:

    • An Accounting vault and a Programming vault
    • Accounting, Programmers and Managers groups

You can then manage access to the right vault based on the group a user belongs to, including allowing managers to access both vaults.

    I hope this helps!
