Steps to produce

  1. Open 1Password.
  2. Click on the Help menu.
  3. Start searching for something (in my case I searched for “Privacy”)

Expected behavior

Results for your search appear.

Actual behavior

The Help menu appears, with a really weird pink halo around it.

Additional information

More details: Apparently it’s a particular type of error. Testing in order to send this bug report resulted in an error message:

Extension Version: 7.7.1.BETA-10
OS Version: 10.15.17
Sync Type: 1Password.com

The layout reporting (purple window) only appears in our betas. It's not a problem in the typical sense. It's more of a built-in feature to help our beta testers report issues before the specific version goes live.

To rectify the problem, can you try these steps, in order.

    1. Open and then quit 1Password completely using

      ⌘⌥⌃Q (Command Option Control Q)

    2. You do not need to unlock the app to have it quit.

      • 1Password must be the frontmost app when quitting.
      • Open 1Password.

*If the border reappears, you will need to quit and open 1Password again.

If needed, we can move you off of the beta to a stable version, which will not exhibit this behavior. It's a small process and poses no harm to your data. Yesterday's beta was a release candidate. I would hope to allow you to remain on the beta until the next release drops because of the recent performance improvements.

  • In this specific case Apple's search field in the help menu has auto layout ambiguities that trigger our beta layout notification (the pink/purple view). We unfortunately don' have a way to fix that aspect of the Help menu.
