Inconsistent Favicon Downloads

This is with the MAS version of 1Password, version 3.9.6 (39600.038).

1Password is not loading/storing the favicons for some websites. Preview images download fine, what I'm referring to are the small icons displayed in the icon column in Widescreen or Traditional layouts.

I've tested on multiple computers and the issue is reproducible across all of them. I've cleared my cache and restarted 1Password multiple times, but no luck. I've checked both the 1Password and Helper logs and there are no errors.

Here are a few examples of sites that have a favicon, but 1Password is returning none:
http://www.adobe.com/ (favicon: http://www.adobe.com/favicon.ico)

https://www.aa.com/ (favicon: https://www.aa.com/favicon.ico)

http://www.bestbuy.com/ (favicon: http://www.bestbuy.com/favicon.ico)

A few examples of sites where 1Password correctly loads/stores the favicon:
www.alaskaair.com, www.amazon.com, www.att.com

Can someone try to configure the non-working sites in 1Password, use the 'Download Preview' function on them, and see if 1Password stores the favicons in its database?

Same experience here but I gave up waiting for a fix. Perhaps version 4 will help us out :)

This is on our radar. I don't have a time frame for a specific release, but it will be resolved in the future. Thank you for your feedback! :)

If you want to do it yourself you can head over to Google Chrome, click images, type in the name of the company or organization, and if it has an icon it will be listed. Just drag the image into the image pane and it will appear.

@Grunt_at_the_Point: appreciate the response, but your recommendation does not solve the favicon issue. A favicon (used in Widescreen and Traditional layouts) is not the same as a cropped preview image (used in Shelves layout). Your solution works in Shelves layout, but not in the others.

You can see what I mean by going to View > Layout > Widescreen in 1Password. I expect there will be several logins using 1P's default icon instead of the website's favicon.

really stupid as no favicon seems to added for weeks now

  • Hi @mgshoutman,

This will be improved in 1Password 4, we're working on this very issue, it'll work the same as it does in the 1Password 4 for iOS. If 1Password can't find the icon, we'll know and we'll try to add custom images on our backend, so it'll push it to everybody at once. Right now, there isn't a way to do this because 1Password tries to download it directly and it cannot find the favicon. There isn't a workaround for this other than waiting for us to fix it in the core of 1Password.

1Password 4 will be a free update at the Mac App Store in case anybody here doesn't know that, so this update will be offered to help with this.
