How To: Toggle between New Tab, New Window, and Current Tab

Since updating to Firefox 19.0.2, opening a website via the browser plugin toolbar icon opens a new window instead of a new tab. I have reinstalled browser plugins, restarted Firefox, check plugin settings and Firefox preferences. Is anyone else experiencing this problem or come up with a solution. Thanks!
