How to get to settings?
Last question (tonight :-) )... The little gear in the bottom left used to give me settings; now it just offers to create a new folder or empty trash. What did I do??

It sounds like everything is working as expected. This is what you should be seeing when you click the action button (gear) in the lower left corner of the main 1Password application:
Are you perhaps referring to the Settings button in the extension popup?
If you want the Preferences for the main application, you can access them in the same way you access Preferences for any OS X application. Select Preferences from the application menu or press
⌘,on your keyboard.

Sorry for any confusion. These are standard conventions that Apple uses across OS X and iOS, but maybe we can come up with something different in the future. :)
