Thank you for your continued advocacy for this feature. I use nested tags a lot myself and I'd love to be able to collapse them too, I'll continue to push for this feature with the team internally.

Which features are implemented (and when) depends on a variety of factors that include: consideration for our existing product roadmap and planned features, available development resources, customer feedback, and more. Our product team considers every request but isn't able to guarantee which requests will be put into development or how quickly they'll be released.

Your feedback is important, please continue speaking up! Feedback like yours helps the team to continually improve 1Password for everyone, here's a peek of some of the work done recently: Autofill, Saving, & Extension Improvements 2024 | 1Password

Another upvote for this required feature. As noted earlier in the thread, for large collections of passwords (eg enterprise usage), this feature is almost required. Without it, the default interface for me reads about 400 lines of tag paths - much more unwieldy than it could be.

  • @JLat

I've passed along your request to the team as well, thank you for the feedback. 🙂

As a longstanding user of 1Password, I have consistently advocated for its adoption among my clients. Recently, I received approval to migrate an entire department within my organization to 1Password, in anticipation of broader enterprise adoption.

Our transition involved importing data from a directory-based password manager, resulting in nested tags—a feature we appreciate. However, I must emphasize the critical need for collapsible tags within the 1Password interface.

    Challenges with Non-Collapsible Tags:

Cumbersome User Experience: The absence of collapsible tags renders the user interface unwieldy when dealing with the number of directories we have.

Orderly Discovery: Our team relies on the directory structure for systematic exploration. Not everyone knows precisely what to search for when locating a password. Many entries lack associated URLs or sufficient descriptions for effective search queries.

The Request: I kindly request that 1Password consider implementing collapsible tags. This seemingly straightforward feature would significantly enhance usability and streamline our workflow.

I distinctly recall having this feature in the past, and I believe its inclusion aligns with 1Password’s commitment to user-centric design.

+1 for this as well please - it seems like an obvious / fundamental feature that customers would want or expect from a hierarchical tag structure, especially as it used to exist :-(.

Could we also have case-insensitive tags as well please - I use the Enterprise version in a large team and I find myself constantly navigating between tag folders called, e.g. "azure/spns", "Azure/spns", "Azure/Spns" and "aZure/SPNS" where different people have entered tag names with various levels of attention to existing values.

+#Me too for Windows desktop version. We have sub or nested tags that are unnecessarily open. A collapsed view would greatly improve our efficiency when scrolling. Since tags are alphabetized, we resorted to adding a period\character to the start of tags that are important. This bypasses the alphabetized sorting to bring this specific tag to the top.

  • @mike99 and @Bove11

Thank you both for the feedback. I've shared your requests with the team.

Please please bring this back. So annoying. All my tags take up way too much space on the left side bar. Even better if it will auto collapse one group of tags when I click over into a different group as I described in this thread: https://1password.community/discussion/122695/collapsable-tag-list#latest

  • Hi @tmakaro, thanks for adding your +1 here! I've passed your feedback along to our Product team as well 😄

Just joined the community so I could put my submission in for this feature.
I moved from LastPass to 1Password just recently and I've been very happy with the product so far.

I used nested folders in LastPass which converted to nested tags. I'm continuing to use nested tags. Without Tags collapsing I've ended up with a very long list to scroll through to find what I need. Nesting tags is essential for usability.

funny thing is that whenever 1Password Desktop (Mac) locks and I reopen it, instead of being at the last search or tag I was looking at it reverts back to the viewing all items. Thus having to scroll for a while to find where I left off. Collapsable tags would be huge.

In addition, it would be nice if the 1Password Desktop app remembers which tags were collapsed and which were not.

Totally agree with Bimmerite. The app should reopen within the same tag group from when the app was closed - just like if used to do in 1PW7 (which I have reinstalled on windows to get around this limitation)

Having focused on attracting Lastpass users at the expense of pre-existing 1PW customers, the Lastpass users are now 1PW users, so maybe they carry some influence now. It is amazing that a version regression has existed for so long and that the founder of the product has no ability to direct/control the developers of his product. Not a great look...

  • Hi @Bimmerite! Welcome to the community, and thank you for taking the time to share your feedback here 😄 I've gone ahead and filed this with our Product team.

1Password has had collapsible folders, then collapsible tags, up to & through version 7.
It makes no sense for them to have been taken away in version 8.
Repeated "assurances" by all of your team members, especially you Dave, that you are passing complainants' feedback along to the Product Team provides no reassurance at all.
Collapsibility should be brought back immediately.

Does 1Password ever release info on upcoming features? I have no idea if they are taking all of us seriously. Is it a dev or business issue?

  • @Guffee and @Bove11

1Password 8 is a brand new app that was written from scratch and the feature wasn't technically "taken away", it needs to be coded again for 1Password 8 which hasn't happened yet due to work on other features and on bug fixes.

Earlier today, I did have a chance to speak to the team that is responsible for item management and I brought up tag collapsing to them again. While I don't have any concrete news to share, the team is aware of the demand for the feature and hopefully this is something that will be added to 1Password 8 in the future.

I'll continue to push for this functionality internally with the team. 🙂

Tags are useless when there are so many to scroll through. I only use search. Has there been any update on collapsible tag feature?

Is there any progress on this?
