How do I view entries grouped by category listed under a category heading?

Using Mac 1password 7. When I view my private vault, all the entries are grouped by category under a heading for that category. ie all the bank accounts are listed under a "bank accounts" heading, all the reward programs are listed under a "reward program" heading. When I view other vaults, the entries are all lumped together, grouped in categories but without the category heading.
How do I see the category heading view in all vaults? thanks.

Hi @stephenjl,

It sounds like you might want to turn on Categories in the sidebar:

1. Click the 1Password menu (next to the Apple menu) > Preferences...
2. On the Appearance tab, check the Categories box.

Then it'll look like this:

That'll be more like what you'd have seen in 1Password 7. You can also use the drop-down menu just below Search to only show a single category at a time:

Thanks for your help. Sadly my preferences box doesn't contain an "appearances" tab. and the drop down menu below the search doesn't look like the picture you posted.

Oops, sorry about that! Looks like we inadvertently sent screenshots of 1Password 8 for Mac. I discovered a quirk in 1Password 7 while I was taking a further look at what you're running into. In short, 1Password 7 won't display headers for the list (no matter what sort option you're using) until there's 11 or more items in that list. Is it possible that your other vaults contain less than 11 items?

With that said, we're pretty happy with 1Password 8, and while it doesn't have a sort by category option (but I'd be happy to share your request for it to make a return 😀), it does always show headers for the list, no matter the number of items in a vault. Additionally as Will mentioned, there's a dropdown to select the category you'd like to view. If you'd like to get started with 1Password 8, we've got an overview here: 1Password 8 for Mac

thanks Jack. I think you are onto the money with the 11 item thing. I'm just at the beginning of entering all my data so some vaults contain less than 11. thanks for your help. cheers

Please enter my request for sort by Category (with alpha sort of entries within each Category heading). I messaged on this issue a day or two ago here in a conversation with @Ben.
