1P v8 Problem Signing into new Chrome Profile

If I try to sign into a brand new Chrome Profile - that is when I'm creating the Chrome profile, 1Password crashes.
For the avoidance of confusion, once I've created the profile, and added the 1P extension, everything is lovely, as expected.
I've loved 1P since 4.0, and 8.7 is the best yet! 😄

Steps to reproduce

Preparation

  • macOS Catalina 10.15.7
  • Chrome 101.0.4951.54
  • Sign in to an existing Chrome profile.
  • Have another Google account that does not have a profile on the Mac.

Steps

  • Click profile picture
  • Add a new profile
  • Sign in to the new profile
  • In the “Email or phone” entry box, type Cmd-\ to bring up the 1Password search box.
  • Search until the required entry is highlighted. In my case, this shows “Autofill”.
  • Press Enter.

Outcome

  • Nothing is filled in the entry box.
  • 1Password quits completely (no menu bar icon).
  • macOS presents a “1Password quit unexpectedly” dialog.

Theory

Although the 1Password Chrome extension is installed in my primary profile, the web page to sign in to the new profile does not belong to any profile. When 1Password tries to fill data in this page, it’s an edge condition with unexpected results.

I can work around this easily enough, so it's not a big deal for me, but it's never nice when 1P crashes!

1Password Version: 8.7.0
Extension Version: 2.3.3
OS Version: 10.15.7

  • Hi @IanTaylorFB:

It looks like this may be a separate issue we're tracking, and has nothing to do with Chrome. Hopefully we'll have this sorted out sooner, rather than later.
