Here's why I went back to 1Password 7

If you're talking about from Quick Access, all that happens when I hit Enter on a credit card is it opens in its own little window. If you're talking about the toolbar button, as I've said, I've removed it because I find the forced blue/color for third party app icons horribly distracting.
Those are all great but there's a third option as well. 🙂 What I was referring to is the inline menu that we show directly within login forms, payment forms, and signup forms. Here's how it looks for me on Twitter's login page:
And here's the inline menu suggesting credit cards to me when adding a payment option to Amazon:
My guess is you're not seeing this either because you don't have the extension installed or it's been disabled under Settings. Here are the Autofill settings that control that.
I hope that helps. Please let me know.

whole thing feels like an "ARQ 6" sequel. At least Stefan came to his senses - maybe that will happen here but I'm not going to be holding my breath

I am not the kind of person who doesn't appreciate hard work. I also love change, and appreciate new version of apps even if they have minor disadvantages because they're new, and something changed, and you need to create some new habits. I don't like 1password8 haters and their attitude.
However, I am going back to 1password7 and I swear that I am very close to abandoning 1password alltogheter after trying one month of 1password 8.
What was a productivity tool, something to be proud of with coworkers, something I loved for how "it just worked" turned into a mess of "almost working" things with lots of bugs.
To be honest, I'm pissed off.
1Password should turn 1password into something at least as functional as 1password7. I don't care about electron, rust, native or whatsoever. It just doesn't work, and it makes your work harder.

I consider haters the ones that hated 1password "just because". Because it isn't native, because it is built on electron, because it's subscription only. Because of engineering and business choices that I respect. Maybe I don't like all of them, but I respect them.
I admit now I am pissed off because it takes work and trust to overcome prejudices and begin using the new version of a software. As a software developer myself, I love being part of software improvement. And the n-th time that while I am working 1password doesn't work as expected, this upsets me a bit.
But having to deal with something so broken (search not working, shortcuts sometimes working sometimes not working) is something that if you are working sometimes hits nerves more than I would like to admit.
Now, regarding the constructive approach: I pay for 1password subscription long before it became mandatory. I applied for what I consider "beta testing" both on iOs and Mac Os. I am here, spending my time reporting bugs and giving my feedback to 1password community. Which is not that I hate 1password, but that I am going back to 1password 7 because I am a professional and I need this tool.
I'll get back to 1password8 one day. Which is not being a hater, in my opinion, but just giving the feedback that this is too much to take.
What would you consider more constructive?

Here are the Autofill settings that control that.
I can't seem to find these settings. Where are they located?

I too am considering going back to v7 (Mac). I have several vaults (personal and family shared) and it seems I can no longer specify a 'default' vault for saving new items in. Also, no more Favorites makes it more tedious as I'm forced to search every time.
Perhaps I'm missing something since it has only been a week since I 'upgraded'.
Hopefully, the revert back to v7 won't be a problem?0 -

@superandrew: Sorry we pissed you off. 😔 That certainly wasn't our intent. I'd still like to thank you for the support and all of the feedback and beta testing you've provided. It's very much appreciated. 🤗
Regarding search, we changed things up to avoid substring matches to reduce the noise in the results. For your
vpn
search example, you can use the straight up filter approach instead with ⌥⌘F. That will filter the existing item list and will find youropenvpn
item. I'd like to see us surface these types of options directly into the search field itself, something like the "pills" that you see in Apple Mail.Regarding shortcuts sometimes not working, which ones have been inconsistent for you? I haven't experienced this myself but would be happy to investigate.
Take care,

Thank you Dave. In the end I overcome my frustration and stayed with 1password 8.. I'll try to resist a bit more :)
The high level definition of what doesn't work now is: when I am in a field on osx, I am used to select cmd+ù (in an Italian keyboard is the lower of the keys on the left of the return key) and the search window popped out. Now, since that window doesn't work with search (and to be honest I tried other patterns but there is no way I could make it work as intended. An example?
I search Microsoft there and on the main window. here are the results
Main window
Search Bar
Btw in the name of the item, there isn't "Microsoft".
About the keyboard shortcuts, sometimes the CMD+ù doesn't work, as there is a new one CMD+Shift+Space to do the same thing. Is this correct? Did I miss something?
A part from this there is a general level of "Not-Working-As-Intented" feeling that is really frustrating. I mean, I don't care about the underlying technology. Here's just a fresh bug: I prompted "AWS" on the search field, pressed return and voilà:
Please Dave, and 1password Team, help me love 1password again!

Thank you, @superandrew. I appreciate it.
I don't have all the answers here off the top of my head but I believe I see the issue with the search results not matching. In your first screenshot from the main app it is searching all of 1Password. In other words, it is including results from every vault you have in every account. In your second screenshot from Quick Access, it looks like you are searching a single vault.
The icon in the top right there is narrowing your search. You can click on it to change it.
You likely want the top one for seeing everything. This is admittedly confusing allowing the main app and Quick Access to have different selections, but it created other problems when we kept them in sync. Given the confusion I think you'll be seeing us iterating on this design choice over the coming releases.
Regarding CMD+Shift+Space, that is the (default) hotkey for launching Quick Access. That's our system wide floating window that you can open from the macOS menubar or with this hotkey. Typically you wouldn't use this while within 1Password, but you're able to if need be.
Those are the parts I could answer. The parts I'm having trouble following is the CMD+ù hotkey. I'm on a Canadian keyboard and that's probably where my confusion is coming from. What is it you are hoping this hotkey will do? It sounds like you are trying to open the search field. If so, the
/
key will do exactly that w/o any modifier keys. With the different keyboard layouts perhaps that is the same as CMD+ù on yours? As for the blank window there, that's terrible. I'm so sorry that happened to you. I've never seen that before. If you are able to recreate, would you be able to take a couple of additional screenshots of the before and after so we can try to understand more and diagnose what's happening? I'll also ask around on the team to see if others have seen this.
Thank you.

Thank you Dave. Unfortunately that was the first thing I checked, and no that's not the problem, as you can see.
For the shortcuts, I don't honestly know, that has always been the way to pop the search in 1Password7. To be honest there were two shortcuts:
- CMD+alt+ù -> fill the field (in safari or other)
- CMD+ù -> open the search window.
I'm not sure but in Italy we have the / located over the 7 so sometimes it isn't practical to do CMD+/ because it would mean to do CMD+Shift+7 (same problem when we have to comment code, sometimes it conflicts). So not sure why that was the default shortcut but definitely not created by me because I found it on every new computer in which installed 1p7.

Hi @superandrew:
Thanks for following up with those screenshots. That definitely doesn't sound like the experience we want you to have. Just as a quick check, would you mind sharing what version number you see for 1Password 8 in Preferences > About? This reminds me of a issue we had previously, but as I understood it has been fixed as of recently.

Hello. I do not like that 1Password now tries to be the only password manager. It no longer works in harmony with other password managers such as keychain and browser password managers. I use both Macs, all iDevices and PCs. I used to rely on Chrome remembering my password, which would sync with chrome on my iPhone, and at the same time 1Password would remember the same user ID and password so when I moved to other browsers I had them. I would also keep 1Password and keychain in sync. Additionally, since I already have a password on my computer and touch ID, I feel it should be my choice as to whether I want 1Password to make me log back in to it separately. I hate being forced to re-enter my difficult password in 1password. I work at home. There is nobody with access to my computer and I should be able to open 1password with login in to my computer, or at a minimum with my touch id, without having to look in my Keychain to see what my 1Password, password is. The app on my phone, I wish I could just have it open to the search page instead of favorites. I have thousands of entries, so there is nothing that favorites can do for me except get out of the way. Oddly enough, I had to reset my password for this community and 1Password didn't even suggest anything. Only the apple keychain did.
