I am using 1Password 7.x (latest version) that I installed through the Mac App Store on macOS 12.x. How do I upgrade to 1Password 8 for mac when that is the case?

  • download 1Password 8 from the 1Password website and install it?
  • is 1Password 8 available as an upgrade through the Mac App Store?

Many thanks in advance

Neil

  • Hi @neilhobbs

Thanks for reaching out to us. 1Password 8 is not currently available in the Mac App Store; however, you can download the app directly through our site:

    https://1password.com/downloads

If your subscription is through Apple, you can download it directly also, as your subscription will carry over. There is no need to change your billing information. I hope that helps!

    Hi @Ben

Thank you for the reply on this.

My subscription is direct with 1Password, but I selected to install the app through the Mac App Store on the Mac.

So with the fact, that I have installed the app through the Mac App Store - will downloading version 8 from your website update the existing 7.x install or will it result in a second installation?

When you are planning to release it through the Mac App Store?

I use 1Password also on Windows, where I obtained the installer directly from you. On my iDevices, I obtained them from the App Store.

    Many thanks in advance,

    Kind regards,

    Neil

We're focused on our website/direct downloads at the moment. Installing from the website will cause 1Password 7 to be zipped up. 👍️ If you'd like to sign up for any notifications regarding the Mac App Store you can do that here.

Thank you for the reply on this.

    Happy to help!

    Hi @Ben

Thank you for this. That is exactly what I was looking to understand. The version 7.x (latest) that I have and used on the Mac, is very reliable and works across all of the applications/apps on my other devices that I used it on.

It's great to know what will happen, if I do decide to update through the direct download avenue.

I have signed up to the mailing list.

    Very much appreciated!

    Have a great day!
