keyboard shortcut (cmd-backslash) broken in v8?

Family plan subscriber here. Since upgrading from v7 to v8, I've noticed that the autofill keyboard shortcut no longer works in browsers (Chrome, Safari) unless 1Password is already unlocked. So, I have to click on the 1P icon in the browser's menu bar, unlock 1P with password / TouchID, and only then will cmd-backslash work to autofill my forms.

Previously in V7 (and the installed extension), the shortcut would work even if unlocked, and I would simply be prompted to unlock -- a much faster workflow.

Is this happening for others as well, i.e. is this an intentional change in v8?

  • Hey @Markinto:

Can you try the following steps to see if the behaviour changes?

    1. Open and unlock the 1Password 8 for Mac app.
    2. From the menu bar, select 1Password > Preferences > General
    3. Select "Keep 1Password in the menu bar".

With "Keep 1Password in the menu bar" turned on, when you press the keyboard shortcut, command - \, are you prompted to unlock 1Password (when it's locked)?

Yes, that seems to work Alvin! Thanks for your assistance with this.

I'd recommend adding a hint about this in the preferences dialogue -- I did look for a solution to my problem there, but it didn't occur to me that I needed to check this off.
